Holiday — Manage Extra Working for Holidays
What this tab does: Define overtime or compensatory off rules specifically for company holidays (national holidays, festivals, optional holidays, etc.). This tab only appears in Advanced Configuration mode.
What You'll See
The Holiday tab opens with a single toggle at the top:
"Copy same as week offs" — Toggle switch (default: ON / blue)
When this toggle is ON, the system applies the same rules from the Week Off tab to holidays as well. The tab shows only this single line.
📝 Note the chain: Holiday copies from Week Off, and Week Off can copy from Week Day. So if all three toggles are ON, all day types use the same rules as Week Day.
Two Modes of Operation
🟢 Mode 1: Copy from Week Off (Default)
Toggle: ON (blue)
The system uses the same rules as the Week Off tab. No additional configuration needed.
When to use this: If your holiday overtime rules are the same as your week-off rules (the most common scenario — both are "non-working days").
🔵 Mode 2: Custom Holiday Rules
Toggle: OFF (grey)
When you turn the toggle OFF, the full configuration form expands with the same structure as the Week Off tab:
Expanded Form — Overtime Variant
If Overtime is selected:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| For extra working hours, Employee get | Overtime or Compensatory Off/Pay |
| Overtime configuration will be | Fixed or Slab Wise |
| Slabs button | Configure escalating rate ranges (when Slab Wise is selected) |
| Allow overtime convert to compensatory at the time of approval | Toggle — let managers convert OT to comp-off |
💡 Common scenario: Many organizations pay double or triple rates for holiday overtime. Turn off the copy toggle and configure the premium rate here.
Expanded Form — Compensatory Off/Pay Variant
If Compensatory Off/Pay is selected:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Minimum extra working required | Hours for half day & full day comp-off |
| Maximum compensatory off can be earned per day | Cap on comp-offs per day |
| Compensatory off leave balance expires | Never / End Of Calendar Year / End Of Financial Year / Fixed |
| Expire comp off after | Days from request date (only if "Fixed" selected) |
| On expiry, comp off balance will be | Lapsed or Encashed |
💡 Another scenario: Some companies only offer comp-offs for holiday work and never pay overtime cash on holidays.

FAQs
Q: Does "Copy same as week offs" mean it always stays synced? A: Yes — as long as the toggle is ON, any changes you make to the Week Off tab will automatically reflect here too.
Q: What counts as a "holiday" in Emgage? A: Holidays are defined in your organization's Holiday Calendar (configured by HR admin under the Holiday module). Both mandatory and optional holidays are included. The system checks the employee's assigned holiday list.
Q: Can I have different overtime rules for different types of holidays (e.g., national vs. optional)? A: Currently, the Holiday tab applies a single set of rules to all holiday types. If you need different rates, consider creating separate overtime policies and assigning them to different employee groups.
Q: What if a holiday falls on a weekly off (e.g., Independence Day on a Sunday)? A: The system typically gives precedence to the holiday rules. The exact behavior depends on your organization's attendance configuration.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Holiday OT not being calculated for some employees | Employee not assigned to the correct holiday calendar | Check the employee's Holiday List assignment in their profile |
| Copy toggle doesn't reflect recent Week Off changes | Browser caching old data | Refresh the page — the Holiday tab always pulls the latest from Week Off when toggle is ON |
| Holiday OT rate showing same as Week Day even after customizing | Toggle might still be ON | Verify that "Copy same as week offs" is turned OFF before making changes |
